When striving to make a text sound more human-like and less mechanical exercise, changing up your sentence structure can be the difference between night and day. An artificial intelligence-generated text will tend to have the same regular cadence to it and have a generally unnecessarily formal or monotone structure. To break out of that mold and add personality to your story, I recommend considering using ten of these sentence structures with the intent of adding warmth and sincerity to the text.

  1. Basic Sentences with Flavor
Simple sentences don’t need to be robotic — they can be colorful when sprinkled with the right vocabulary. You can take mundane things—the simple subject-verb-object arrangement—and turn them around with some texture by throwing an adjective or adverb into the mix. For instance, instead of writing, “The sun came up,” you could write, “The glowing sun crept out upon the dawn.” Just that little change gives a more personal touch to the moment that makes it seem not only real, but alive.
  2. Complex Sentences Natural Pauses Compound Sentences
Compose two closely related ideas with a conjunction, such as ‘and,’ ‘but,’ ‘or,’ etc. Another example of this would be: “I love my morning coffee and it’s such a pleasure watching the sunrise,” which will naturally show a flow of thoughts in how we can connect things as if it were a real conversation. It is the rhythm of the sentence that is able to imitate how someone feels when thinking to connect them, rather than having to start introducing details too fast because they don’t want their point to be cramped by details, and how people will not feel overwhelmed by complexities in punctuations.
  3. Complex Sentences (By Showing Complexity)
Thesis to be complex in your sentence can be able to show keenness toward details. Causing-Effect sentence where a main sentence is followed by an adjective phrase that begins a dependent sentence. An example would be “Because the autumn air harbored a crisp reminder of nostalgia,” which shows a cause-effect relationship, making the reader understand that there is a larger backdrop for that scene.
  4. Compound – Complex Sentences | Rhythm of Conversation
A mix of compound sentence with complex sentences will allow you to combine more than one idea and keep things conversational. A statement like, “I wanted to go outside, but then it started to rain—not an ideal option anyway, so I decided I would stay in the house and look back on my jolly childhood days.” Reflecting on these, a compound sentence can form a complex sentence, telling your writing to be physical and multifaceted, which makes it interesting.
  5. Sutory; Parenthetics
Adding a small aside or interjection is a great way to put a little bit of personality into something. Even just an “indeed,” “surprisingly,” or something in between can keep things lively and change up the mood. Like, “The meeting was a long and boring (just like most Mondays), but we found time to laugh over things that happen.” These can make your writing sound spontaneous and relatively similar to everyday life. The unpredictability of everyday language will help you get up and personal with your content.
  6. Rhetorical Questions for Tension
Rhetorical questions encourage your readers to stop and think while keeping the text from feeling too strictly formal. Rather than laying everything out as a cold fact, instead ask a rhetorical question such as, “Ever feel a gentle breeze of summer wind, carrying with it the memories of previous adventures?” Doing so immediately immerses your audience in a feeling of shared experience with yourself. It creates an interactive atmosphere.
  7. Imperative Sentences Encouraging Direct Attention
Sometimes an imperative sentence or call to arms is beneficial in order to get the reader directly involved. Incentivizing them to take, or advising them to perform an action. A command or request such as “Take the time to inhale the simple beauty of life” directs readers to be physically active within the process, not just mentally but also emotionally. Here the writer is asking their reader to join their company as if they’re simply giving them a favorable act of kindness rather than a strict fact.
  8. Sentences That Express Surprise, Excitement, or Pure Enthusiasm (Exclamatory Sentences)
“What an astonishing sunset that glowed that evening!” These sentences enhance the sentiment by adding a sense of emotion and energy lacking in flat statements. These are opportunities for times when peak experience breaks through, and there is a genuine human response to everyday occurrences.
  9. Sentence Openers for Increased Variety
Try not to start every sentence the same way. Start with a different type of sentence every time – whether it be a different adverb (“swiftly I moved towards the noise”), a prepossessive phrase (“in the glow of twilight memories surfaced”), or even a dependent clause – it brings variety to your text, ensuring that it’s not monotonous as written thought has a natural ebb and flow to it.
  10. Storytelling Elements in Texts
Add narrative elements to ensure the sentences become humanized. Introduce personal anecdotes/observations in a fluid manner: “Last summer I was wandering in a busy market, searching for something that I was curious about – I had stumbled upon flavors that I experienced back at home.” Not only does this method help you to break the monotonous chain of independent sentences, but it also provides an inviting aura wherein the reader is sucked into a bigger picture – a story of some sorts.

With the deliberate use of these 10 structures of sentences, you are able to foster a more lively, more approachable story; each method has a unique contribution in avoiding generic sameness and false tones. These methods help you communicate ideas that stand out more to people. The implementation of these methods in your writing helps break out of the “machine-like” way of word phrases and bring out the spontaneous, random nature of human thinking. In the end, there is value in embracing all these varieties of sentence structure and creating a text that is captivating, intimate and evidently real.
